For Christians wanting to deepen their faith and understanding of God and the faith, here are some resources I’d recommend after going through them myself. They help restore the core beliefs of the faith and how we should live as Christians in light of them.
1. The American Gospel: Christ Alone
An excellent and comprehensive documentary over two hours long, going back to the core beliefs of Christianity, and how the mainstream church and faith community have moved away from this, as shaped by the American culture and the stereotypical preachers of health, wealth and influence.
The whole film is now available for free on YouTube, and there was a second one called American Gospel: Christ Crucified.
2. Costi Hinn Testimony
Costi is the nephew of the famous Benny Hinn, known for large crusades and healings.
Costi grew up in the thick of this world which he now sees as false and even goes further here in a talk to describe how disillusioned his uncle really is with the 'false gospel' like mentioned above, and then a genuine, heartfelt journey of how God led him from that into a genuine Christian and more Reformed faith.
3. David Pawsons, Unlocking the Bible
This has been my primary resource for going through all sixty-six books of the Bible and understanding them further, both on an individual basis and together, to see a common theme throughout Scripture.
These were recorded back in the nineties, in two halves – one for the Old Testament, the other for the New Testament. Each video is approximately 45 minutes long, with smaller books covered in one, but longer ones like Genesis covered in many (plus you can buy the book of them together).
I find David helpful for providing a general overview of things and for succinctly summarising points. This is more important than his own interpretation of certain doctrines, some of which I disagree with; it's more a genuine overview of the Bible to encourage all Christians to read and study it themselves.
Some other complementary online resources I’ve also used for studying each book of the Bible are:
* Bible Project – short cartoon-style video summaries and download posters of books of the Bible (and other Christian topics)
* One Hour. One Book – a one-hour overview of each book of the Bible
* The Bible from 30,000 feet – a similar overview of the books of the Bible by an American Pastor, Skip
4. Once Saved Always Saved - Documentary Film
A good outline of why the 'once saved always saved' doctrine is not assumed to be correct, and the idea that once you become a Christian, you can't lose your salvation as you have 'eternal security'. However, this provides a good balance between still having assurance of Salvation and being in Christ now, but not being guaranteed.
5. Sabbath Testimony, Charlie Kirk
I think Charlie Kirk's testimony is the best example of really understanding the weekly Sabbath rest for Christians today and the original seventh-day Saturday. There are details here of all his online footage on the subject, and a review of his book on the Sabbath called Stop in the Name of God; Why Honouring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life.
My own testimony of this is here, and another interesting video here, turning the discussion about the Sabbath being changed into a song.
This is the best and longest video of him on the subject, also featuring other people in an interview format.
6. Hellgate, The Kirk Cameron Show
Kirk Cameron sparked a controversial debate over the issue of whether hell is a state of eternal torment that never ends, or an event of annihilation where existence stops after punishment. He began thinking this way in a dialogue with his son here (and something I believe in myself), and this video shows a formal debate he arranged with people. Both a good cover of the topic, and an example of a Godly debate between Christians with different views on a subject, but still in love.
7. Self-deception and false repentance (based on Charles Spurgeon)
This gets straight to the point about how Christians should have genuine repentance from sin and full surrender and obedience to Christ. Although the creator is unknown and may be AI-generated or at least influenced, and only has references to similar quotes from Charles Spurgeon, this still covers the subject well and to the point.
