If you’re looking into what Christianity is all about, then here are some recommended resources I've come across and gone through myself.
Everyone is on a different journey, of course, and needs to understand a different aspect of the faith.
1. ‘The Chosen’ TV series
A popular mainstream Hollywood series that has been on for several seasons and very high quality. Professionally done and written by Dallas Jenkins, all through crowdfunding and going through the life of Christ on earth as recorded in the four Gospel books of the New Testament of the Bible (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John).
They're in bite-sized episodes, usually under an hour, and available for free download in various places. Even if you don’t want to go deeper into understanding Christianity, this is still a great way to understand the historical narrative and Jewish culture that Jesus was brought up in.
2. Bear Grylls book,‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’
Although he’s famous for living a hectic outdoor life, he's also a practising Christian. There’s one particular book he’s released called ‘The Greatest Story Ever Told’ that he sees as his most significant and direct Christian work yet, something he felt a strong urge to write quickly.
There’s a good interview with him and this book with someone called J John, and you can purchase it online at Amazon here.
They're a good introduction to the first four books of the New Testament section of the Bible called The Gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. They’re a record of Christ’s life on earth 2,000 years ago, with Bear essentially writing a modern version of these from the perspective of other characters at the time.
3. The Gospel: Who Jesus Christ Is & What He Came To Show Us
This is a good documentary-style video, around 1 hour and 20 minutes, that goes through the basics of what Christians believe, known as the 'Gospel' (and basically meaning good news of what we believe Christ stands for).
It’s helpful to get into the core beliefs of Christianity, although there will be some points where interpretations differ (including mine). However, this is a good overview and helps get to the core beliefs rather than a stereoptypical view of the faith.
4. The God Debate - Ayaan Hirsi Ali With Richard Dawkins
This lady, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, after becoming a Christian, has an open discussion with Richard Hawkins, whom she knows well, and defends the faith even though she is still in the process of articulating what this all means.
5. Universe Designed - Documentary
The trailer for this interesting documentary, having a look at the science behind Christianity and the world.
6. Steve Bartlett interview with Wes Huff
Here's an interview by atheist Steve Bartlett with popular Christian apologist Wes Huff, looking at the basis for what Christianity and the Bible are believed to be true, with Steve's interest in the subject after a friend became a Christian.
